Machine Tool Base Castings are the fundamental structural components of all types of machine tools, acting as the bottom support and installation foundation for the entire equipment. As the "root" of machine tool operation, they bear the total weight of the machine tool, various structural parts, and processing workpieces, while absorbing and isolating external vibrations and cutting shocks, which directly determines the overall stability, machining accuracy, and service life of the machine tool.
To meet the strict operational requirements, machine tool base castings must have excellent comprehensive performance. They need superior vibration damping to reduce the impact of cutting vibrations on machining precision and avoid workpiece surface defects; high rigidity and load-bearing capacity to resist deformation under long-term heavy loads; low thermal deformation to prevent dimensional deviations caused by temperature changes during operation; and good machinability to facilitate subsequent precision processing and assembly.
Grey cast iron is the preferred material for machine tool base castings, with HT250, HT300, and HT350 being the most commonly used grades. These materials have outstanding vibration damping, wear resistance, and cost-effectiveness, perfectly matching the working characteristics of machine tool bases. The manufacturing process adopts resin sand casting to ensure the structural integrity and surface quality of large and complex bases, with strict control over melting temperature, inoculation treatment, and sequential pouring to eliminate internal defects such as shrinkage and pores. Artificial or natural aging treatment is indispensable to reduce residual stress and ensure long-term dimensional stability.
Quality inspection strictly complies with international and national standards such as ISO 8062, ASTM A48, and GB/T 9439, including non-destructive testing (ultrasonic, magnetic particle) to detect internal flaws and CMM dimensional measurement to ensure precise size and installation accuracy. Widely applied in lathes, milling machines, CNC machining centers, and heavy-duty machine tools, these castings provide a solid and reliable foundation for efficient, high-precision industrial manufacturing.
