Cast steel parts refer to metal components manufactured through the steel casting process—molten steel is poured into prefabricated molds, cooled and solidified, then processed and finished to meet specific shape, size and performance requirements. As core structural components, they are widely used in various heavy industries due to their excellent mechanical properties and adaptability to complex structures.
Basic Characteristics of Cast Steel Parts
Compared with other metal parts(such as cast iron parts, forged parts),cast steel parts have unique advantages that make them irreplaceable in many harsh working conditions:
-High Mechanical Properties:They have higher tensile strength, ductility and impact toughness than cast iron parts, and can withstand large loads and alternating stresses without easy fracture.
-Complex Shape Adaptability:They can be cast into parts with complex structures(such as internal cavities, irregular contours)that are difficult or uneconomical to process by forging, machining or other methods.
-Adjustable Performance:Through reasonable material selection(different steel grades)and post-casting heat treatment, their strength, hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance can be adjusted to meet different working environment requirements.
-Weldability and Repairability:Most cast steel parts can be welded and repaired, which reduces the loss caused by minor defects and extends the service life of the parts.
-Wide Material Range:They can be made of different steel grades according to needs, covering carbon steel, low alloy steel and high alloy steel, with strong applicability.
Common Types of Cast Steel Parts(by Material)
The classification of cast steel parts is mainly based on the steel grade of the raw material, and each type has its own characteristics and applicable scenarios:
1.Carbon Steel Cast Parts
The carbon content is the main factor determining its performance, which is divided into low carbon, medium carbon and high carbon cast steel parts:
-Low Carbon Cast Steel(carbon content<0.25%):It has good ductility and weldability, but low strength, and is mostly used for parts that bear small loads, such as brackets, covers and general structural parts.
-Medium Carbon Cast Steel(carbon content 0.25%-0.6%):It has balanced strength and toughness, good machinability, and is the most widely used type of cast steel parts, suitable for gears, shafts, valve bodies, pump casings and other common mechanical parts.
-High Carbon Cast Steel(carbon content>0.6%):It has high hardness and wear resistance, but poor ductility, and is mainly used for parts that bear wear, such as crusher jaws,wear-resistant liners and cutting tools.
2.Low Alloy Cast Steel Parts
The total content of alloying elements(such as chromium, molybdenum, nickel, manganese)is less than 8%.On the basis of carbon steel, adding a small amount of alloying elements can significantly improve the strength, toughness, wear resistance and high-temperature performance of the parts. They are widely used in industries such as power generation, mining, construction and heavy machinery, such as turbine blades, excavator bucket teeth, railway truck frames and high-pressure valve cores.
3.High Alloy Cast Steel Parts
The total content of alloying elements is≥8%,mainly including stainless steel cast parts,heat-resistant steel cast parts and wear-resistant alloy cast parts:
-Stainless Steel Cast Parts:With good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, they are suitable for chemical processing, marine, food machinery and medical equipment fields, such as chemical reactor parts, marine propeller hubs and medical implants.
-Heat-Resistant Steel Cast Parts:They can maintain stable performance at high temperatures(above 600°C),and are used in high-temperature equipment such as boilers, steam turbines and industrial furnaces, such as furnace walls, heat exchangers and turbine casings.
-Wear-Resistant Alloy Cast Parts:Added with high-hardness alloy elements(such as chromium, tungsten),they have excellent wear resistance, and are used in mining, metallurgy and other industries with severe wear, such as mill liners and drill bits.
