Regular maintenance is essential to retain flatness accuracy, prevent rust, and extend the service life of cast iron inspection platforms.Routine maintenance can be divided into daily, weekly, monthly and annual standardized operations as follows.
1.Daily maintenance(after each shift)
Surface cleaning
Wipe away cutting fluid, metal filings, oil stains and dust on the working surface with soft cotton cloth.Hard wire brushes and abrasive cleaning tools are forbidden to avoid scratching the scraping datum texture.Sticky dirt can be removed with neutral metal degreaser, then wiped completely dry.
Anti-rust protection
After drying the platform surface, evenly coat a thin layer of special anti-rust oil on the entire working plane, side walls and unused auxiliary T-slots to isolate moisture and air.
Temporary covering during downtime
Cover the whole platform with dust-proof waterproof cloth if the workshop stops production overnight or on holidays, blocking damp air, falling iron scraps and splash coolant.
Visual quick inspection
Check for fresh scratches, indentations, rust spots and workpiece impact marks on the surface;mark damaged areas for subsequent targeted repair.
2.Weekly maintenance
Deep cleaning of pores and T-slots
Use soft brushes to clear metal powder accumulated inside T-slots and tiny surface pores, remove residual oil sludge that cannot be wiped off daily to avoid embedded dirt causing local height difference.
Inspection of supporting stands and adjusting feet
Check all support bolts for looseness, rust or jamming.Rotate adjusting feet lightly to confirm flexible lifting and lowering;apply a small amount of anti-rust grease on thread parts.
Check surrounding environment layout
Ensure no water tanks, cooling equipment or heat sources are close to the platform.Clear piled heavy workpieces placed on the table for a long time to eliminate concentrated static load deformation risks.
3.Monthly maintenance
Preliminary flatness detection
Use precision straight edges, dial indicators and feeler gauges to test overall flatness and local datum deviation, record error data for comparison with previous records to track precision attenuation speed.
Rust spot treatment
Polish tiny rust bulges and shallow rust pits found during inspection with fine abrasive stones, then re-scrap the local area to restore flatness before re-coating anti-rust oil.
Ground and base inspection
Check the ground under support stands for water accumulation, sinking or cracking.Add moisture-proof rubber pads if the floor is damp to reduce bottom corrosion and uneven support force.
4.Quarterly/Semi-annual maintenance
Comprehensive precision calibration
Send the platform to professional metrology departments for full flatness calibration, issue formal inspection reports. If flatness exceeds tolerance, arrange partial re-scraping or overall surface finishing.
Stress release inspection for large-size platforms
For heavy cast iron platforms above 1500mm,check edge warpage and torsional deformation caused by long-term vibration and residual stress, readjust multi-point supporting positions to balance bearing force.
Maintenance of matching measuring tools
Clean and calibrate height gauges, dial indicators and squares used together with the cast iron platform to avoid measurement error mismatching caused by auxiliary tool failure.
5.Annual major maintenance
Complete surface overhaul
Remove all oil layers and rust layers on the platform;grind severely worn, scratched and pitted areas, carry out full or partial precision scraping to restore standard blue contact points.
Full anti-corrosion treatment for the whole body
Derust and grease all support frames, brackets and adjusting screws;spray anti-rust paint on the platform bottom and side non-working surfaces.
Internal condition assessment
Check for fatigue microcracks on edges and corners caused by long-term impact and vibration;perform cold welding repair immediately once cracks are discovered to prevent crack expansion.
Storage and placement optimization
Rearrange production stations if the platform stays under continuous high temperature, vibration or damp environment;add heat insulation or dehumidification auxiliary facilities as needed.
